Is Conversion To Islam Good Or Bad For America’s Prisoners?
The House Homeland Security Committee is holding its second hearing on the terror threat among Muslim radicals who were recruited inside U.S. prisons. While Jon Scott points out that overall, conversion to Islam is said to have a positive impact on the rehabilitation of American prisoners, in certain cases it can go very wrong and lead to extremism.
Law enforcement experts testified that prisons are a target for recruiters because of the sheer volume of recruits. Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michael Downing testified, “We have the largest incarceration rate, the largest prison population of any country in the world. And, prisoners by their very nature are at risk and susceptible for recruitment and radicalization by extremist groups because of their isolation, their violent tendencies, and their cultural discontent.” -Fox News
