"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." -Hebrews 10:36
Willie Jolley, a recent guest speaker on the Hour of Power, shared this wonderful true story of perseverance:
"A ninth grade math teacher I interviewed, Mrs. Doris Deboe, told me that one day her doctor told her that she had terminal breast cancer. She was given six months to live. She said, 'I can't die now; I got too much to do.' She sat there for a minute, gathering her thoughts, then she stood back up, looked the doctor in the eye, and said, 'I just made up my mind. I'm not going to die. I'm going to live for 25 more years.'
"He said, 'Ma'am I'm sorry, the tests are conclusive. You have six months,' and he sent her home to die. Well, I'm excited to say that lady lived for 33 more years!
"When I interviewed her, she said, 'Tell the people in your book that I might have cancer, but cancer does not have me. When you write it, write it like I say it. Tell your readers that the doctors can give you the diagnosis, but God gives you the prognosis!'"
Prayer: Lord God, I am filled with the joyous, triumphant, overcoming, and persevering spirit of Jesus Christ and will live with a committed sense of optimism for today and hope for the future because of it. Amen.
Reflection: Where or when in your life have you had to persevere? What results have you experienced because of that perseverance? -HOP
