"When people fall down, don't they get up again? And when someone goes the wrong way, doesn't he turn back?" -Jeremiah 8:4, NCV
Has anyone ever told you to "pull yourself up by your bootstraps"? The origin of this phrase is unknown, but it refers to lifting oneself up by pulling on one's own bootstraps (or laces), exemplifying the accomplishment of rising out of a difficult situation by one's own efforts.
"Bootstrapping," a term derived from the phrase and used in early computers, involved loading a small amount of code, which was then used to load increasingly more complex code until the machine was ready for use. Today, when we start up our computers, we often call it "booting" or "rebooting."
We're blessed, as Christians, to know that when we attempt to improve or reboot our lives, we will be ultimately successful only if we involve God (our programmer and designer) in the process. When we fall down or fail, we pray for God's help, and then get on with life doing his will to the best of our abilities.
Prayer: Dear God, I rejoice in knowing that you will help me to rise up when I fall down. I ask you to reboot my mind and fill it with creative solutions to the problems and issues I face. Please give me the faith I need to see them through to the end. Amen.
Reflection: What current problem or issue do you need to overcome? Imagine what you and God can do to overcome it, together. –Bobby Schuller
