Dead Crows Mystery In Massachusetts Solved

The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (MTA) found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from avian flu.

A bird pathologist examined the remains of all the dead crows, and, to everyone's relief, it was confirmed that the cause was definitely not avian flu.  Instead, the cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts.

However, during a detailed analysis, it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the dead birds' beaks and claws.  And it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by impact with cars.

The MTA then hired an ornithological behaviorist to determine the cause for the disproportionate percentages of crows killed by trucks versus cars.

According to the bird behavior expert,  crows often eat other animals killed on the road (road-kill), and they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger.   However while all lookout crows could say "Cah," not one could say "Truck!" -Author Unknown
