Cardinal To Church: Pray For Courage To Defend Faith

A Roman Catholic cardinal says it's time for Americans to stand up for religious freedom.

Speaking at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Thursday, Cardinal Donald Wuerl challenged believers to defend their right to live out their faith.

"Your faith is a remedy for what ails our society," the cardinal told the audience.

He stressed that the mission of the Church is to engage the culture with the good news that only comes from Jesus Christ and that believers should "pray for the courage" to defend their religious rights so they can do God's will on earth.

"That new life in Christ, that living out of our faith, is reflected not only in our worship and in our personal acts of charity, but in our Church's educational, health care, and social ministry outreach," he said.

"Those works, those acts of faith, are threatened whenever our religious freedom is eroded," he said. –CBN
