He Makes All Things New ...

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new," -2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV

By Dr. Lawrence Wilkes

The family gathered around my grandfather's bed as he lay gasping his last breaths. Suddenly, he sat straight up and looked around. With a smile on his face, he began to nod as if there were more people beyond the ones present. It became obvious that he could see beyond that moment into eternity, and he was greeting those that had gone on before him. He said, "Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." Then he lay back down and died.

What a profound moment that was in my life as a small child. And for my mother, as well, who at that time was an atheist. Later on, once we had both come to faith in Christ, we talked about grandfather's death so many years before. We were filled with joy as we worshipped our God of redemption, who makes all things new in our lives if only we believe.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I believe that You are a God of resurrection, redemption, renewal, and rebirth. Thank you for new beginnings every day as I follow you. Amen.

Reflection: As you think about the recent past, ask Christ's forgiveness for anything you've done outside his will for your life. Now, how does that make you feel? If you're still holding on to anything from the past, meditate on today's scripture and see what happens. –Hour of Power
