Archbishop: Gay Marriage Ignores Kids' Best Interest

As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to consider the legality of California's Proposition 8, both sides are making their voices heard in San Francisco.

Supporters of same-sex marriage marched to city hall on Tuesday in one of the largest rallies Castro Street has seen in years.

Meanwhile, the city's archbishop is speaking out on what is best for children. Salvatore Cordileone said he disagrees with recent claims by the medical community that parental sexual orientation does not affect a child.
"Only a man and a woman can unite their bodies in such a way that it can produce new life," Archbishop Cordileone said. "We should not change the definition of marriage in such a way that we enshrine in the law a principal that a child does not deserve a mother and a father."

The archbishop is also worried about what the court's ruling would mean for the Church's teachings. He warns the Church could be identified as backward and prejudiced.

"If we want to know how people who do hold that view will be treated, we have to think about how a racial bigot is treated in the country today," he said. –CBN/March 26, 2013
