While modern health gurus emphasize the importance of diet and exercise in order to have a [hopefully] healthy and long life, consider the following:
(1) If walking is so good for one's health and contributes to a long life, then mail carriers should have the longest life expectancy -- and be almost immortal. But how many mail carriers are there who have lived to be at least 100?
(2) A whale swims all day, eats a lot of fish, and drinks a lot of water, but it is monstrously fat. And while scientists claim that blue whales can live up to over 100 years old, all other species of whales have a life expectancy of between 50 and 80 years only;
(3) A rabbit runs and hops all over the place, and eats a "healthy diet" of mostly greens, but its life expectancy is 15 years only.
(4) Jim Fixx, who started the jogging craze in America as a form of exercise to promote good health [and long life?], died at age 52 while jogging in a park near his home.
(5) Robert Atkins, who advocated a low carbohydrate, high protein diet and who started the Atkins diet for weight loss to promote good health [and long life?], suddenly keeled over at home and died of a massive heart attack in his early 70s.
(6) Interestingly, while it has been touted that the latest "average" [or the mean] life expectancy for men in the USA is supposedly about 76+ years and women in the USA can "expect to live" to about 80+ years, the health authorities and the US government have, however, never talked about the highest or the most number of deaths in the USA [or the mode], which is a truer and more accurate picture of life expectancy among Americans.
Did you know that according to the U.S. Bureau of Vital Statistics, the highest or the most number of recorded deaths in the USA [the USA's life expectancy mode] occur between the age of 45 and 65 years old, before millions of people even start collecting/receiving Social Security benefits?
This should make one wonder what the U.S. government has been doing/had done through the years with all the millions/billions [trillions? quadrillions? . . .gazillions?] of $$$ of Social Security contributions/deductions from paychecks of people who died before they received a single cent of SS benefit! And yet, people are now told that the U.S. is trillions of $$$ in debt and going bankrupt? There is something terribly fishy and wrong with that picture!
And finally. . .
(7) On the other hand, in comparison to the above. . .

- a tortoise moves very slowly but it lives up to as long as 450 years old;
- a tree [such as, the giant redwood], altho' not an animal but still a living organism, does not exercise or make a big deal about diet, but it "lives" to hundreds [even thousands] of years!
So, where do today's self-proclaimed human health authorities & experts get the idea that diet and exercise lead to a long and healthy life? -Author/Source Unknown
