The Funeral Of A Dead Church

A new pastor in a small Oklahoma town spent several days during his first week in town making personal visits to each of the members and inviting them to come to church for his first Sunday service.

The following Sunday the church was all but empty. Accordingly, the pastor placed a notice in the local newspapers, stating that, because the church was dead, it was everyone's duty to give it a decent Christian burial. According to the notice, the funeral would be held the following Sunday afternoon.

Mainly out of curiosity, a large crowd turned out for the "funeral". In front of the pulpit, they saw a closed coffin covered with a large spray of flowers. After the pastor delivered the eulogy, the coffin was opened and the congregation was invited to come forward and pay their final respects to their dead church.

Wondering what would was inside the coffin, all the people eagerly lined up to see at the corpse of a "dead church" would look like. Each "mourner" peered into the coffin, and then quickly turned away with a guilty, sheepish look.

Inside the coffin, tilted at the proper angle, was a large mirror.
