He has been cared for by the non-profit American Eagle Foundation (AEF).

He has become a 'human-socialized' bird after being raised by the people who rescued him after being blown from his nest as a baby during a fierce storm in Louisiana in the late 1980s. Declared to be 'non-releasable' by federal and state wildlife authorities, he was trained by the AEF to perform free-flight demonstrations at high profile public events.

He is the first bald eagle in U.S. history to learn how to free-fly into arenas, ballrooms, and stadiums while the American national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, is being either played or sang.

This celebrity eagle has appeared in numerous major sporting events, such as, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the All-Star Game, the BCS National Championship, the Fiesta Bowl, the Men's Final Four, etc.

Challenger has also flown in the presence of four U.S. Presidents!
