Report: More Same-Sex Households In U.S.

A pro-family activist attributes California's high number of same-sex couples to its promotion of a decadent lifestyle.

The latest U.S. Census Bureau reports show that California may have the highest number of same-sex households in the nation, with 28,312 homosexual "married" couples and 98,153 same-sex couples overall. Only states like Massachusetts, Vermont, and the District of Columbia, which have legalized same-sex "marriage," report higher numbers.

The number of Americans living with a same-sex partner has gone up by 80 percent over the last decade. 2010 census figures show there are roughly 646,464 same-sex households, which is a big increase from the 358, 390 in 2000.

Gary Gates, a Census Bureau consultant, recently told the San Francisco Chronicle that the high numbers are the result of a "decreased stigma since 2000," and Brian Camenker of MassResistance agrees.

"I think just the whole breakdown of society ... the incredible promotion of the homosexual lifestyle and the homosexual agenda and all of that other stuff, and just the fact that it's California with Hollywood and the Castro section of San Francisco and everything else probably has a lot to do with it," Camenker suspects.

18,000 "gay" couples married in the state the summer prior to the November 2008 passage of Proposition 8, the California law that defined marriage as between one man and one woman. And recent polls reveal that 50 percent of Americans, including a majority of Californians, support same-sex "marriage." However, Camenker notes that a majority of Americans still support traditional marriage. He says those polls are politically skewed.

"These so-called polls just don't square with observable facts," he notes. "And, as we all know, it's easy to ask the right questions and the wrong question."

But while the overall increase may be attributed to decreased sigma, Gates says this is the first time the Census Bureau has made an aggressive effort to tally same-sex couples, and he believes that made a difference. –One News Now
