What's happening in the Gulf is a tragedy on a scale yet to be imagined. The long term ramifications will not be fully known for years to come. Meanwhile, life in the ocean, those who harvest from it, and us who delight from its delicacies will never be the same. We have lost this battle and though we may fix it, it will never be all that it was before the disaster began.

God gave us this planet and expects us to be honorable stewards of all that He created. Unfortunately, you and I have not cared for His gift responsibly. Like it or not, we are partly to blame for this horrible destruction unfolding in the Gulf. We demand from the earth without regard to its care, thus the price we are paying and will continue to pay in the future if we resume the course we are taking will bring about more disasters unless we become better care takers of our world. The oil spill in the Gulf could have been avoided … this was not an oops, but a blatant disregard for safety and a criminal disregard for the environment.

Judgment day is coming and all of us will have to account for how we cared for His creation. But before that day comes, the wake up call is pretty clear … now is the time to change the way we view our world and become better care takers of its fragile environment. How?

We can no longer trust our irresponsible government and greedy leaders, as well as corporate heads to change how we care for our environment. It is now up to you and me to stand up to these giants and let our voices be heard by demanding better of them. We must hold them to a higher standard and expect better policies that will protect our environment that will limit further destruction of our planet. If we don’t, then bigger and more horrifying disasters will happen and the beauty of our world will be filled with the stench of death.

Change? Yes! We must change! And I hope that the environmental destruction of the Gulf will be our wake up call to how we care for this beautiful world … a gift from God.

Unfortunately, I won't be holding my breath because we have become spoiled brats in our standard of living and how we consume in excess. We have become slaves to greed and careless politics. And if we continue down this road it will only lead to the destruction of our planet ... then what?

This week I’d like to dedicate my blogging to our world and God’s fragile gift to me and you.
